An Updated Study on CATX - Bought 01oct2024

The SPY is again stuck in a range, this time between $574 and $586. With the election 10 days away, I expect to see it remain relatively unchanged this week. This could see a further slow down on the Sell side of our holdings.
Our Group saw a 12% increase in the number of filled bids to 50% versus our long-term average 37.9%. Nice to see this stat getting back in line. Stat! (My wife is a nurse, so….)
This week’s chart study is an update to the CATX purchase I made on 01oct2024. I strongly encourage you to re-read the 29sep2024 newsletter (which may be 30sep2024 on your Substack) to grab the initial thinking that went into this purchase.
You may recall that we bought CATX 18sep2024 and sold it at 5% plus expenses, on 19sep2024.
Then we bought it again 30sep2024 and it sold the same day. So, we were already up approximately 10% in 10 days even though the price had gone down AND while only risking capital for less than 3 of those 10 days.

Since then, we’ve mostly experienced a slow drizzle south and I don’t imagine it reversing this week. My Ask was $13.60 per share and price did get to $13.56, but close doesn’t close the sale and I insist on making 5% to keep my numbers consistent, especially for this newsletter.
This is the most recent chart generally marked as it was except for some key things you can watch for in your trading. The lettered points previously discussed have not changed on the chart, so let’s look at some of the differences.
From left to right you’ll see 3 large yellow ovals. These point to the areas where some candle pivots, both high and low, focus their attention to the 10ema (exponential moving average – black line) and the 20sma (simple moving average – orange line). 4 weeks ago I felt strongly that price would be more attracted to the 50sma (dark blue line) as it was in the pink square during July and August. The stubby dark blue arrow showed the target of where I thought price would want to connect, but instead it generally ran along the 20sma and is currently running the 10ema.
2 dark grey lines shoot into the future to let us know where potential areas of resistance and or confluence may occur.
The last 3 days price has closed below the Daily 200sma (hot pink line) and this tells us we may be in for a little more down side action. If the whole of the Keltner Channel should spend much time below the 200sma, we may actually start experiencing a long term down trend. Currently, it seems a Keltner Squeeze may be forming as the bottom of the channel is somewhat flat, while the top is descending more rapidly. This could force price further down.
2 indicators may save us from this possible fate.
In the upper right corner, you see a yellow rectangle as the Stochastic Relative Strength Index (Stoch RSI) is ready for its triggers to fall below the 20. This can be a good buy signal especially when you add the same indicator, already below 20, but on the weekly chart.
This weekly chart also shows price paying great respect to the 10ema and 20sma lines but on a weekly basis.
Also notice that the stubby blue arrow points to the 10ema here on the weekly, whereas it points to the 50sma on the daily. This indicates a confluence of events over multiple time frames which is something you can also explore in your future trading. For my style of trading, I rarely refer to it.
If I had to guess, and I guess I do have to guess in this case, I guess; I would guess that price on the weekly will meet the 50sma (dark blue line - which is also the bottom of the Keltner Channel on the daily chart) and rebound to try to pierce both the weekly 10ema and the weekly 20sma lines just as they cross each other at the price where I bought in. Where I bought in doesn’t add to any confluence of events because the market really doesn’t care where I bought in.
What I do know is that crossing up through a weekly 10ema x 20sma confluence is not something I can comment on as I rarely need to be concerned about it compared to the daily signs. But I would “guess” it could present a bit of a wall to get over on our trip back north to Profitville.
CATX will likely report earnings in mid to late November.
All that said, we should be able to take advantage of a CATX buy-in expansion sometime this week. Keep your eyes peeled! (A horrific action to perform, so try not to think about it that much.) Happy Hallowe’en! Mwa-ha-ha!

For money management safety, never put more than 1.5% of your DAILY net equity balance into any one position. (Some exceptions apply. See below). You will have more flexibility and be even more comfortable with 1% or less as a position size. THIS IS TOTALLY YOUR DECISION.
Another mode of money management is to only use 25% of your Buying Power (BP) each morning, divided by the number of bids. Thus, if you have $30,000 of BP and 10 bids on the list, you will only use $7,500 for that day’s bidding at $750 per position.
If you fill 40% ($3,000) of your bids that day, the next day your BP might be about $27,000, ($30,000 less the $3,000 you actually spent the day before). This way you’re typically able to play every single bid, every day. Ultimately, it may take some time to find what works best for you.
You may prefer an approach of always buying the same NUMBER of shares when you add to a position. For instance, if you buy 2 lots (200 shares) of a stock at $4, and that stock goes down in price, then when that stock shows on my bid list again, you could buy another 2 lots at the lower price on the bid list. Just make sure your approach drops your Ask price a healthy amount.
You can bid on all stocks on the bid lists, even if you already own them, and PROVIDING the potential negative effects of your broker’s commission structure makes it logical and profitable for you to do so.
I don’t use stops. That said, it’s important to realize that this is a very contrarian view compared to most of the industry. I average down in a strictly controlled method as noted above.
